Wrappin' it up
1.) Tell me about something you learned about
another culture this term that really surprised you or intrigued you.
I really enjoyed learning about the
Native American culture. I was really intrigued because it is a culture that is
right in our own back yard and I knew very little about their music and dances
so I was always curious. I loved learning about the songs and what they
actually mean, I thought it was interesting that they do not actually mean
anything but the dance is more of a spiritual thing. I also was able to relate
to some of their religious dances. Mexican Culture has similar dances that were
used by the Aztec for spiritual and religious reasons.
2.) Tell me about something that you realized
about your own culture through our discussions.
I realized that my culture was very
similar to other cultures, I realized that we use music and dance for many of
the same reasons but in different ways. People are unique and creative and can
have different ways to show case it but the reasons why we do things tend to be
similar. One thing that Dr. Weeks kept saying was that people are people no
matter where you go and I think taking this class and getting to know about
different cultures and why they do things confirms that to me.
3.) Tell me about a couple of things you
really liked about this class, and a couple of things you wish could have been
different.
I really liked reading everyone’s blogs I
thought that was a smart way to get everyone to participate while learning
about each other and our own cultures. I wish we did not need the book; I do
not think it added to the class. I found that through lecture and blog post I
learned the most.
4.) Tell me about something this course had inspired
you to learn more about.
This course has inspired me to learn more
about Italian culture and music. I am not familiar with their music or dances
and would love to learn about it. I am going to Rome in June and I think that
it is a perfect opportunity to learn about Italy before I go over there. I want
to learn more about their traditional dances, if I could get to see one on my trip
would be really cool!
