COOL STUFF 4

I was not super familiar with Southeastern or Far East Asia that much until my roommates from last year came to live with us. They were both from China and listened to so much music. I remember being in my room and always hearing their music either in their room or the shower. I would ask them about it too because sometimes I would get curious and the music would be so fun I just had to ask. One of the songs they would listen to was by a singer named GEM, it sounds like sort of like a pop song.

The second thing I found was a video of the Pipa and the Erhu but they are playing a cover to All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor. It actually sounds really cool and they obviously filmed their selves playing a different part of the song and them mashed all together to make the complete song and I thought that was cool. They are playing instruments that you usually do not hear in western music but are playing a western pop song.

Last cool thing I found was a traditional dance from Bali, Indonesia it is called the cendrawasih dance. I have always wanted to travel to Bali and it is one of my top places I want to travel to, I think it is absolutely beautiful. The dance is usually performed by two female dancers and represents the mating rituals of the bird of paradise or the bird of gods. They usually wear headdresses with feathers and long flowing scarves or skirts.

  1. I absolutely loved the first two videos. I like to find videos of popular western songs being taken over by other cultures instruments. On Cool Stuff 3, I had Ed Sheeran's song Shape of You on my blog where two men from India added in the Indian Carnatic music style in and it was amazing. That's what the second video reminded me of.

  2. I really like the second video you had posted. It sounds really good with the instruments and it is very fascinating to know how they could do so with the use of traditions ones.

  4. Oh, I love the "All About That Bass" cover! It's something I haven't seen quite as much in the blogs as in past years--folks around the world covering contemporary American pop songs on their traditional instruments. I have a friend that plays bass oboe, and here's his cover of the same tune!
